BUIES CREEK, N.C. Campbell's football program, after just
completing the first season of football in 58 years, had a pair of
players garner All-PFL honors, the league office announced today
(Nov. 27). The award winners were selected by the voting of the
league's head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own
players.
Milton Brown,
a redshirt freshman from Havelock, N.C., captured first-team
honors, while Brandon
Chandler, a true freshman from Kernersville, N.C., was an
honorable mention All-PFL selection. These were the first
postseason honors for any Campbell players since the program was
restarted.
Milton Brown,
Linebacker, R-Fr., Havelock, N.C./Havelock HS
Played in all 11
games with 10 starts...led the team with 85 tackles (sixth in
Pioneer Football League), including 48 solo stops (tied for third
in conference)...ranked second on the team with three interceptions
(tied for eighth in league) including a pair of return touchdowns
(tied for conference lead)...reached double figures in tackles
three times, including a career-best 13 at Dayton (11/4)...had 11
tackles and a pass breakup against San Diego (9/20)...totaled 11
tackles against Morehead State (11/22)...picked off three passes
and scored two touchdowns including a 99-yard game clincher in
Campbell's win over Carthage (9/25)...lead the team in tackles in
six times...named the Pioneer Football League's Defensive Player of
the Week on Sept. 27...earned a spot in Sports Illustrated's Faces in
the Crowd (11/17).
Brandon Chandler,
Defensive Back, Fr., Kernersville, N.C./Glenn HS
Played in all 11
games with 10 starts...lead the team with 436 all-purpose yards
including a team-high 393 as a kickoff returner...his 54 tackles
placed him fourth on the team and 12th among all
defensive backs in the PFL...tallied two interceptions (second on
the team) and three pass breakups (tied for second on
team)...returned the opening kick against Valparaiso (11/15) 86
yards for a touchdown...the return was the first kickoff touchdown
for Campbell in the modern era...tied his career best with eight
tackles against Davidson (11/1) ...had seven solo tackles and a
total of eight stops at Drake (10/18)...had a tackle for loss
against Jacksonville (9/13)...returned his interception at Morehead
State (11/22) 41 yards...lead the team in all-purpose yards three
times on the year.
Jacksonville, the PFL regular season champion, saw freshman
quarterback Josh
McGregor pick up the league's Freshman Offensive Player of
the Year Award, while head coach Kerwin Bell was named the
conference's Coach of the Year. San Diego senior wide receiver
John Matthews
was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year and freshman
defensive back Al-Rilwan Adeyemi took home
Freshman Defensive Player of the Year honors. Dayton defensive
lineman Scott
Vossler was named the league's Defensive Player of the
Year.
