CHAMPIONSHIP IN BUIES CREEK: For the first time in eight years,
Campbell University will host the Atlantic Sun Conference men's
soccer championship tournament. The event starts with first-round
matches on Wed., Nov., 12, then continues with the semifinal round
(Nov. 13) and championship match (Nov. 15) at the Eakes Athletic
Complex. Campbell carries
the top seed into the event after becoming the first school in
A-Sun men's soccer history to compile a 9-0-0 regular season league
record..
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE: The A-Sun Championship starts Wed.,
Nov. 12 with third-seeded Lipscomb (9-8-2) facing sixth-seeded
Mercer (2-10-5) in a 4:00 p.m. kick-off. Fourth-seeded Stetson (8-6-2) squares
off against fifth seed Belmont (9-7-2) at 7:00 p.m. Thursday's first semifinal matches
second seed Jacksonville (10-8-0) against either Lipscomb or Mercer
at 4:00 p.m. Campbell
(13-5-0) faces either Stetson or Belmont at 7:00 p.m. Saturday's final kicks off at 3:00
p.m.
SENIOR CLASS
EXCELLENCE: The 2008
Campbell senior class has collected a long list of accomplishments
over the past four seasons.
During that stint, CU has won two A-Sun regular season
championships (2005, 2008), one A-Sun tournament title (2007), and
made the school's first appearance in the NCAA Division I College
Cup (2007). The Camels have
been ranked in the South Region in each of the last four years and
have compiled a 49-24-6 overall record (.658). The Camels also own the best A-Sun
regular season record (25-4-4, .818) of all league members since
the start of the 2005 season. In addition, the Camels received their
first national ranking (No.-24 in the Nov. 3 Soccer America poll)
since 1988.
WIN STREAK
REACHES 11: Campbellequaled the
school's longest winning streak (11) with a 2-0 victory at High
Point (Nov. 4). The mark
was first set by the 1970 team, then matched in 1973 and 1974. CU's previous Division I era
(since 1977) record for consecutive victories was 10 set by the
1993 unit.
A-SUN
STRENGTH: The Camels are
unbeaten in their last 15 games against A-Sun men's soccer
opponents (13-0-2) dating to a 3-2 setback at Lipscomb on Oct. 13,
2007. The Camels also own
the best A-Sun regular season record (25-4-4) of all league members
since the start of the 2005 season.
SHUTOUT STREAK
ALIVE: Campbell enters the semifinal round of
the A-Sun Championship riding a stretch of six-straight shutout
victories. Campbell has not
allowed a goal since Oct. 16 in a 4-3 victory over Lipscomb. CU opponents have not scored in
the team's last 570 minutes.
HOME,
SWEET HOME: Campbell has won 26 of 31 home
games since the start of the 2005 season, and is 8-0-0 (with a 20-6
goal differential) in 2008 at the Eakes Complex. CU has not lost at home since a 2-1
setback to UNC Greensboro on Nov. 7, 2007... Campbell drew a season-high 1187 fans
to its 2-0 win over No.-7 North Carolina on Oct. 28. CU leads the A-Sun in home game
attendance (463), a feat CU also accomplished in 2005 and
2006.
