FT. MYERS, FLA.-Florida Gulf Coast
opened the second half with a 23-10 run on the way to a 73-46 win
over Campbell in Atlantic Sun women's basketball action Saturday
afternoon inside Alico Arena.
FGCU moves to 6-2 overall
with the win, evening its league record at 1-1. Campbell,
meanwhile, falls to 4-2 on the year with a 0-1 A-Sun
mark.
Junior forward Geami Britt
led the Lady Camels, grabbing 10 of her team-high 12 points in the
first half. Ashley Williamson, another junior forward, registered
nine points and five boards while sophomore forward Lauren Yesh
added eight points and five rebounds.
The Eagles, who launched 29
three pointers in the afternoon tilt, knocked down 11 from behind
the arc, with seven coming from freshman guard Kelsey Jacobson and
junior forward Chelsea Lyles. The pair went for 12 and 13 points,
respectively.
Junior guard Brittany Brown
notched a game-high 17 points to go along with five rebounds.
Junior forward Adrienne McNally joined the trio in double figures,
recording 12 points and eight boards.
The teams traded the lead
three times in the first half, forcing seven ties in the first 10
minutes before the Eagles reeled off a 15-6 run, pushing a 33-24
FGCU lead. At the half, the Eagles would lead 36-29, powered by the
duo of Brown and McNally, who gathered a combined 18 points in the
opening stanza.
After the break, FGCU posted
another run, registering a 23-10 run by the 10:33 mark. Jacobson's
three gave the Eagles a 59-39 lead, one of the freshman's four from
distance.
The Lady Camels could only
land 17 points in the closing frame, while FGCU tallied 37 in the
half. After notching 57.9 percent on 11-of-19 shooting in the first
half, CU mustered 18.8 percent from the floor on
6-of-32.
The Lady Camels will head to
DeLand, Fla. on Monday, taking on Stetson in an 11:30 a.m.
tilt.
