BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Senior
forward Brittanie Taylor-James and junior guard TaWuana Cook
combined for 41 points, as North Carolina A&T handed Campbell
its first loss at home this season, 72-54, in women's basketball action Saturday
afternoon inside the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.
The Lady Camels fall to 5-4
on the year, while the Aggies move to 5-3 with the win.
Junior center Ashley
Williamson posted her third double-double of the season in the
loss, pouring in 16 points along with 10 rebounds. Eight of
Williamson's 10 boards were of the offensive variety, over half of
the team's 15.
Junior forward Geami Britt
tallied eight points for the Lady Camels with four rebounds and
four assists, while Gara Bell, another junior forward, grabbed
seven points and five rebounds. Bell also racked up two blocks in
the loss.
Senior guard Jessica Mack,
after going scoreless against UNC Asheville on Thursday, drained
six points to go along with three boards, with the freshman trio of
Kate Cloxton, Katelyn Bass and Amanda O'Neill combined for 10
points in the game.
For the Aggies, Taylor-James
posted a game-high 21 points on 8-of-19 shooting, while Cook went
for 20 ticks. Cook also registered six assists to help NC A&T
to the win, along with a rejection.
Junior forward Lamona Smalley
and senior guard Amber Bland joined the pair in double figures,
recording 12 and 11 points, respectively. Smalley led the Aggies on
the boards, grabbing 10 to complete the double-double, while
sophomore forward Jaleesa Sams posted nine rebounds.
After the Lady Camels led by
as many as seven in the first half, the score was knotted at the
half, at 36-all. CU shot 48.4 percent from the floor in the opening
stanza, with Williamson gathering 14 of her 16 total points in the
half.
From there, the Lady Camels
turned the ball over 14 times, with the Aggies posting 17 points
off CU miscues. The Aggies also used a 36-18 flurry through the
half to take the game by 18.
The Lady Camels will head
back on the road once more before the Christmas break, going to
Winston-Salem State on Monday.
