BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Outfielder Courtney Quinn, Campbell softball's
lone senior, was named Atlantic Sun Player-of-the-Week for the
first time in her career, after fueling the Camels to a 5-1 start
to their 2008 season, the league office announced on Monday.
In
her opening week, Quinn, a Glencoe, Ala. native, knocked three
homers and scored eight times while batting .550 for the Camels,
also raking three doubles and batting in six.
In
the Camels' season opener at the College of Charleston, Quinn went
3-for-6 with a homer, a double, and three RBI while scoring three
times as the squad went 1-1 in the twinbill. In game one, Quinn
helped the Camels to an eight inning win, powering a ball over the
leftfield wall as CU won 12-7.
The senior continued to produce at the Georgia Southern
Invitational on Friday and Saturday, helping the Camels to a 4-0
tourney sweep downing Jacksonville State, Georgia Southern, Drexel
and Radford in the two-day tournament.
Quinn posted a pair of three-hit games on day two, going 3-for-4
against the Dragons and the Highlanders with four runs scored and a
RBI in the leadoff spot. Quinn also scored the tying run in the
game against Radford in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game
into extra innings.
Quinn and the Camels will open up their home schedule on Tuesday,
Feb. 19, with a 4 p.m. doubleheader against UNC Wilmington.
