BUIES CREEK, N.C.- Campbell
University baseball signees Jeff Rydman, Josh Jones and Josh
Holskey, who are set to play for the Camels in 2009, were recently
recognized as some of the top junior college and high school
players in the country. CollegiateBaseball.com noted Rydman
and Jones as 2008 Junior College Players to Watch, while Holskey
was tabbed second-team Louisville Slugger Pre-Season High School
All-American.
Rydman is one of just four
left-handed pitchers from the state of Kansas to be recognized on
the list and will come to Campbell after a two-year stint at Fort
Scott Community College. In
his freshman season at FSCC the left-handed pitcher totaled 91
innings, posted an 11-1 record with a 3.92 ERA, and 76 strikeouts
in 17 games. Hailing from
Gladstone, Mo., Rydman guided his team to a 33-25 record en route
to earning 2nd Team All-Jayhawk Conference honors in his
freshman campaign.
Although named to the list as an
outfielder, Jones is a versatile player that doubles as a catcher
and is a product of Jackson State Community College (Tenn.) where
he earned 2nd Team All-Region VII as a freshman. Jones posted a .417 batting
average with 17 homeruns, 74 RBI, 14 doubles and ten stolen
bases. Jones was also
selected to play in the junior college East-West All-Star
Game.
Holskey, a first baseman from
Roanoke, Va., is one of just two high school players to be inked in
the early signing period by Campbell's first-year head coach Greg
Goff. Holskey attends Lord
Botetourt High School where he batted .471 with seven homeruns,
eight doubles and an impressive .624 on base percentage his junior
season. The 2A all-state
honorable mention selection was also a 1st All-Region
III, All-Blue Ridge District and All-Roanoke Times
performer.
Campbell will open its 2008 season with a doubleheader Feb. 22
against the Dayton Flyers.
The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
