BUIES CREEK, N.C.The
decision came down to the final match, but Campbell managed to
overcome Charleston Southern 4-3 this afternoon in women's tennis
action at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
After Campbell (3-0) claimed
the doubles point, Charleston Southern (0-1) battled back to win
three singles bouts and even the score.
Junior Liza Bensimon
clinched the victory, the third-straight for the Lady Camels, in a
6-3, 6-2 decision over Nazli Kutuk at the number-five spot. With the win, Bensimon improves her singles mark
to 8-1 on the year. The Toulouse, France native also picked up an
8-1 doubles win with partner Blanca Saenz at the
three-spot.
Saenz, a sophomore from
Madrid, Spain, continued her success in singles action, defeating
Andrea Schutte 6-3, 6-4 at number-two, and expanding her singles
mark to 5-3 this year.
Nina Surviladze was the
third Camel to triumph in both singles and doubles action. The
senior from Albuquerque, N.M. won a 6-2, 6-4 straight-set decision
over Patricia Jaeger at number-four. She also teamed with younger
sister Ana Surviladze for an 8-5 victory at number-two doubles. The
Surviladze tandem is 6-0 on the year.
The Lady Camels return to
action tomorrow, Feb. 9, as they head to Conway, S.C. to face off
against Winston-Salem State at 12:00p.m. and Coastal Carolina at
3:00p.m.
