BUIES
CREEK, N.C. Campbell head football coach Dale Steele has added two coaches to his staff -
Greg Williams and Jonathan Riba - for the 2008 season.
Williams,
who will serve as the secondary coach and special teams
coordinator, has 39 years of college coaching experience and most
recently spent five seasons at North Carolina State as the
defensive backs coach. In 2006, North Carolina State placed 13th
nationally in pass defense (166.67), 50th in scoring defense
(21.83) and 36th in total defense (317.17). The 2004 defense led
the nation in total defense (221.4) and ranked second in pass
defense (119). In 2002, the Wolfpack were first in the Atlantic
Coast Conference in total defense (300.8), pass defense (175.5) and
sacks (48).
"The addition of Greg to our staff is certainly exciting
for us," said Coach Steele. "He is a coach with tremendous
experience at all levels, but in particular at the FBS level and
the FCS level. We are enthused to have someone with his background
and his knowledge of the area. He obviously adds a great deal of
experience to our staff and we couldn't be more pleased that he and
his family are joining the Campbell Family."
Williams joined the North Carolina State staff after five
years on the Georgia coaching staff as the secondary coach
(1996-97) and wide receiver coach (1998-2000). Williams also has
spent time at Duke (secondary coach 1995), Connecticut (defensive
coordinator 1992-94), Maryland (defensive coordinator 1987-91), LSU
(defensive coordinator 1980-81), TCU (offensive coordinator
1977-78), West Virginia (defensive coordinator 1976), Tulsa
(secondary coach (1971-74) and Youngstown State
(quarterbacks/receiver coach 1969-70).
Williams earned his bachelor of arts degree in parks and
recreation in 1968 from North Carolina State. He is replacing
former Campbell coach Tony Grantham who returned
to Navy to work on their staff.
Riba has been added to the staff as an offensive
assistant. Riba spent last season working at Harnett Central High
School in Angier as the defensive line coach and special education
teacher. Prior to his time at Harnett Central he worked for a
season at Athens Drive High School in Raleigh as the defensive
coordinator/linebacker coach and a physical education teacher. Riba
also spent two seasons working at Smithfield Selma Senior High
School in Smithfield as an offensive line/defensive backs coach
(2004-05).
Riba is a Riverside, California native with a bachelor of science
degree in kinesiology (1999) and a masters of science education
degree (2003) from California Baptist University. He also spent
eight years working as a teacher and coaching high school football
in the Golden State from 1996 through 2003.
"We are
thrilled that Jonathan has chosen to come and join our staff here
at Campbell," said Coach Steele. "He adds a great deal of
enthusiasm for the game along with tremendous knowledge. His
experience comes from coaching at high schools in the area, which
we feel will aid us in both the recruiting process and in
communicating with our current student-athletes. His love for the
game and his desire to coach young men has shown already in the
short time he has been on campus."
"I am
pleased with the addition of both of these coaches to our staff,"
Coach Steele continued. "As we continue to grow these are the type
of quality people that will keep Campbell going in a positive
direction."
Williams
and Riba join Lonnie Hansen, Art Link, Jerrick Hall,
Oscar Olejniczak and Landon Mariani on the Campbell coaching staff. Campbell
began spring practice on March 26 with a spring game set for April
19 at 1 p.m.
The new
alignment for the football staff goes as follows: Link (defensive
coordinator/linebackers), Williams (secondary coach/special teams
coordinator), Olejniczak (offensive line/run game
coordinator/recruiting coordinator) and Riba (offensive
assistant).
