BRASELTON, GA. Victor Hielte is
tied for 10th individually and Campbell University is tied for
fourth place after 18 holes Monday at the Larry Nelson Collegiate
men's golf tournament.
Host Kennesaw State leads the 14-school
event at 12-over 296 on the par-71, 6735-yard Chateau Elan Resort
Woodlands Course. Armstrong
Atlantic (302) is second, followed by Central Arkansas (304),
Campbell (306), Wyoming (306) and Jacksonville (306).
Six Atlantic Sun schools are
participating in the event in anticipation of the A-Sun men's golf
championship, which will be held at Chateau Elan .
Hielte, a sophomore from
Gothenburg, Sweden, birdied four of his last five holes to shoot a
plus-three 74 and sit four strokes behind leader Chris Wolfe of
Armstrong Atlantic heading into Monday's second 18-hole round. The 54-hole tournament concludes
Tuesday.
Only Wolfe and Kennesaw
State's Matt Nagy (even-par 71) shot even or below par over the
first 18 holes in the 70-man field.
Campbell freshman Matt Moot and
sophomore Gregg Hostetter both shot six-over 77, while freshman Zak
Drescher finished the first round and seven-over 78. Senior Fredric
Sundberg shot plus-nine 80.
