GAINESVILLE, Fla.- Florida stroked seven extra-base hits and made
five double plays en route to a 15-3 non-conference victory over
Campbell on Tuesday night at McKethan Stadium. Florida (7-2, 0-0 SEC) remains
unbeaten in the all-time series against Campbell (3-4, 1-2 A-Sun)
dating back to 1997.
Florida's Josh Edmundson (1-0) picked up his first victory of the
year striking out three and scattering just two hits over 4.1
innings, while Campbell starter Cody Raisch (0-1) suffered the loss
giving up four earned runs over 1.1 innings of work.
All nine starters in the Gators' order collected hits, while five
had multi-hit games. The
middle of Florida's lineup Cole Figueroa, Brandon McArthur
and Josh Adams went a combined 5-for-12 with ten RBI and
three runs scored, while Avery Barnes and Matt den Dekker had three
hits apiece.

for five hits. Scott went a
perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Braswell matched a career high
with two hits. The last
time Braswell had two hits was against North Florida on May 5,
2007.
Campbell didn't waste time jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the
top of the first inning after a 30 minute rain delay. After Zach Johnson led the inning off
with a single to right field and Brian Gana and Ryan Hamme were
walked and hit by a pitch in consecutive at-bats, Mike Causey
lifted a ball to deep center which scored Johnson from third base.
Back-to-back RBI singles by
Scott and Ellis Lowe ended Campbell's first inning scoring giving
the Camels an early three run lead.
Florida answered in the bottom half of the first highlighted by an
RBI single by Jonathan Pigott. Pigott, a sophomore outfielder from
Ormond Beach, Fla, extended his 13 game hitting streak dating back
to last season. Cole
Figueroa also tacked on a run for the Gators scoring Avery Barnes
on a sacrifice fly cutting Campbell's lead to 3-2.
The Gators proceeded to score in each of the next three innings
extending its lead to 9-3 thanks to two three run innings (second
and fourth). Campbell's
Hunter Ford had Barnes picked off of first base that would have
ended the second inning but a two RBI double by Figueroa followed
by an RBI triple by Brandon McArthur broke the game open giving
Florida a 5-3 edge after two innings. Clayton Pisani hit a solo
home run in the third and the Gators tacked on six runs in the
bottom of the seven inning putting the game out of reach.
Justin Lilly was solid on the mound in relief for the Fighting
Camels throwing two innings of shutout baseball. Lilly, a senior from Raleigh, N.C.,
gave up just two hits.
Campbell will conclude its two game series with Florida tomorrow at
McKethan Stadium.
