HEMPSTEAD,
N.Y.-After day one action at the Colonial Athletic Association
Championships at the David S. Mack Sports Complex on the campus of
Hofstra University, Campbell stands ninth, led by freshmen Parker
Burns and Jake Fose.
Fose,
the first Fighting Camel to take the mat on the day, defeated
Sacred Heart's Tom Sullivan at 157 pounds, 7-4. The rookie from
Middletown, Ohio grabbed his second league win with the decision,
gaining his first at the CAA Duals over another Pioneer, Michael
Powers, 6-4. Fose later lost in the championship's quarterfinals to
the league's top-ranked 157 pound wrestler, Hofstra's No. 18 Jonny
Bonilla-Bowman.
After
dropping a match to Boston University's John Hall, ranked fifth in
the league at 197, Burns notched a 4-3 win over Corey Waite of
Binghamton. The win was Burns' third CAA victory, as the Everett,
Wa. native took two matches at the CAA Duals in January.
Day
two of the CAA Championships begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with the
second round of consolations, followed by the semifinals at noon, a
third round of consolations at 2 p.m. and the championship and
consolation finals at 5 p.m.
