BUIES CREEK, N.C.
After going 2-1 in singles action, including earning Campbell's
only point against USC Upstate, Larbi Lamzouri has been named
Atlantic Sun Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office
announced today.
Lamzouri, a freshman from
Meknes, Morocco, improved his singles record to 13-7 on the year
with his two wins. This player-of-the-week
honor, the final of the 2007-08 season, is the first of Lamzouri's
career.
The business administration
major was the only CU player to earn a singles win in yesterday's
6-1 loss to Upstate. He defeated Renzo Airaldi in straight sets
6-2, 6-4 at the two-spot.
Earlier in the week,
Lamzouri picked up another two-spot singles win 7-5, 6-1 over
Gardner-Webb's Andrew Veeder. The same day, he teamed with Marc
Sifre to blank Jamie Lawlor and Carlos Quijano 8-0 in number-two
doubles action.
Lamzouri is the second
member of CU's men's tennis squad to earn this honor. Fellow
freshman Davy Sum earned back-to-back player-of-the-week awards in
February.
The Fighting Camels (15-7,
7-3 A-Sun) have secured a three-seed in next weekend's Atlantic Sun
championship tournament. The event, which takes place in Johnson
City, Tenn., begins April 18.
