BRASELTON, GA. – Freshman Zak
Drescher is tied for fourth place individually and Campbell is
fourth in the team standings following Monday's first round of the
Atlantic Sun Conference men's golf championship at the Chateau Elan
Woodlands Course.
Blake Palmer of Gardner-Webb
fired a six-under-par 65 in Monday's first round that included
seven birdies to take a four-stroke lead. Gareth Shaw of East Tennessee State is
second at two-under 69, while teammate Rhys Enoch is one behind
(70).
Drescher is locked in a
five-way tie for fourth place at one-over 72. Forty-seven of the 50 players in the
field failed to shoot par or better on the par-71, 6735-yard
layout. Drescher, who hails
from Landisville, Pa., birdied two of his last four holes,
including the par-4, 407-yard 18th.
Led by Palmer's low score,
Gardner-Webb took an eight-stroke lead on the team leader board at
even-par 284. Defending
champion East Tennessee State is second at eight-over 292 in the
10-school field, followed closely by North Florida (294), Campbell
(294) and Kennesaw State (296).
Campbell senior Fredric Sundberg is in
a three-way tie for ninth place at plus-two 73. The Gothenburg, Sweden product had
four birdies in his round, but finished bogey, double-bogey on 17
and 18. Junior Isak
Pettersen is tied for 12th at three-over 74.
Freshman Matt Moot is tied
for 16th at plus four 75, while sophomore Gregg Hostetter shot
eight-over 79 on Monday.
