BRASELTON, GA. Zak Drescher and Fredric
Sundberg earned all-tournament team honors and Campbell University tied for third place in the team
standings after Wednesday's final round of the Atlantic Sun
Conference men's golf championship at Chateau Elan Woodlands
Course.
Campbell finished among the top five
schools in the A-Sun Championship for the seventh-straight year and
is the lone league member to accomplish that feat over the
span. The Fighting Camels
shot 294-292-293 to conclude the tournament at 27-over-par 879
strokes.
Forty-seventh ranked North
Florida placed all five of its golfers among the top 13 individuals
and knocked off defending champion and 20th-ranked East Tennessee
State by one stroke for the team title. The Ospreys shot two-over 286 for the
day and ended the tourney at 14-over 866 (293-287-286). ETSU finished at 15-over-par 867
(292-287-288), while Campbell and host Kennesaw State
(296-285-298879) followed. First-round leader Gardner-Webb
finished fifth (284-305-304893) in the 10-school
tournament.
East Tennessee State's Gareth
Shaw, the top-ranked individual in the event at number-22 in the
latest Golfstat Cup poll, won medalist honors at three-under 210
(69-67-74), one stroke better than teammate Rhys Enoch
(70-71-70211). Oliver
West of Kennesaw State was third (72-68-73213) as only three
golfers in the 50-man field finished the tournament at even par or
better.
Jordan Gibb and Michael
O'Neal tied for seventh to lead UNF, while Jeff Dennis, J.C. Horne
and Chris Kennedy finished among a four-way deadlock in 10th
place.
A Landisville, Pa., resident,
Drescher had four birdies and two bogeys in his two-under-par final
round 69 Wednesday on the par-71, 6735-yard Woodlands layout. He birdied the par-4 fourth,
fifth and 12th holes, while also scoring 4 on the par-5
eighth. Drescher concluded
the 54-hole event at plus-one 214 (72-73-69) and produced his best
tournament finish as well, passing a tie for fifth at last week's
Palisades Collegiate Classic.
Senior Fredric Sundberg shot
a one-under-par 70 on Wednesday and finished the event at
three-over 216 (73-73-70) in a tie for fifth place. The Gothenburg, Sweden product's final
round included an eagle on the par-5 15th, plus birdies on the
par-4 third and fifth holes. He also tied for fifth in the 2007
A-Sun tournament.
Camel freshman Matt Moot from
Johnstown, Pa., shot a five-over 76 Wednesday and finished the
tournament in a tie for 17th place at plus-nine 222
(75-71-76). Junior Isak
Pettersen from Falun, Sweden (74-79-79232) and sophomore
Gregg Hostetter of Leola, Pa., (79-75-78232) finished in a
five-way tie for 32nd place.
