NASHVILLE,
TENN.-Coming off an 18-run performance on Saturday, Campbell could
not overcome Lipscomb in Monday's doubleheader at Draper Diamond,
dropping both decisions of the doubleheader, 3-2 and 5-4.
CU falls
to 28-18 with the loss and 4-8 in league play, while Lipscomb moves
to 18-21 and 9-5 in A-Sun contests.
After the
Bisons put up one run in the bottom of the first in game one of the
day, Campbell senior leftfielder Courtney Quinn posted her
16th homer of the season, a solo shot in the top of the
third to knot the game at one-all.
In the
bottom of the inning, however, Lipscomb sophomore Abby Keese
knocked a solo home run of her own, before Kellie Sirus, a LU
sophomore, registered a solo homer of her own in the fifth, giving
the Bisons a 3-1 advantage going into the seventh.
Campbell
did threaten in its final at-bat, putting two runners on before
freshman shortstop Amanda Miller singled in fellow freshman, Amanda
Cline. The Camels could not capitalize, however, falling to the
Bisons in the opener.
Sophomore
hurler Brittany Stanley, falling to 15-7, tossed the complete game,
scattering seven hits while giving up three runs and striking out
four batters, while Lipscomb senior Kim Jacobson moves to 4-7,
giving up two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and five
walks.
In game
two, it was the Camels who jumped on top first, as Quinn drew a
bases loaded walk in the top of the second. Sophomore third baseman
Shayla Cullum then added another CU run in the third, knocking in
junior first baseman Karlie Love to give Campbell a 2-0 lead.
In the
bottom of the third, the Bisons pushed two runs across, as Sirus
and senior Heather Collins punched a pair of pitches up the middle
to tie the Monday afternoon contest.
After
nearly three scoreless innings, sophomore catcher Amanda Littlejohn
put Campbell in the lead in the sixth, grabbing a two-RBI bas hit
to score freshman Lizzie Goldbach as well as Quinn.
The Camel
lead was short lived, however, as three Bisons scored on a pair of
wild pitches in the bottom of the inning to give Lipscomb the 5-4
advantage.
Lauren
Stephan, a CU freshman, took the loss in the contest, giving up
five runs on seven hits, while striking out one and walking six to
go to 12-11 on the year. Sophomore Christen Campbell registered the
win for Lipscomb, pitching the latter five innings in relief of
sophomore Alaina Jacobson. Campbell, a Bartlett, Tenn. native, gave
up two runs in the game, striking out three and walking two, moving
to 8-9 on the season.
Campbell will make the
quick trip back home tonight, as Charleston Southern will match up
with the Camels tomorrow in a 4 p.m. tilt at the Eakes Complex.
