BUIES CREEK, N.C.- In its final non-conference contest of the year,
Campbell looks to snap Duke's perfect 26-0 non-conference mark when
it heads to Durham, N.C. to face the Blue Devils at 7 p.m. Live audio and statistics will
be available via Campbell's official athletic website
www.GoCamels.com.
Campbell (18-33, 11-19 A-Sun) had a tough weekend as the Camels
dropped two-of-three games in Nashville, Tenn. to the Belmont
Bruins. After earning a
doubleheader split in the first day of the three game set, Campbell
self destructed in the rubber game walking 11 batters on top of
three errors.
Despite its recent struggles, Campbell is inching its way into the
record books in several different categories. With four regular season games left,
the Camels continued their aggressive style of play swiping five
bags, which extends their season total to 93. Campbell now sits just 11 stolen bases
away from tying the 2001's single season record of 104.
Heading the attack was Brandon Scott and Stephen Parsons. Scott, a senior from
Robersonville, N.C., added to his season total of 31 by taking two
bags, which puts him one back of Nic Carter for the single season
stolen bases record. Scott
overtook Carter's all-time record earlier this season.
Parsons had an uncharacteristic weekend on the bases as the junior
catcher was a perfect three-for-three in stolen bases. Parsons had only stolen one base
heading into last weekend.
Campbell is building on records it has already shattered, including
times hit by pitch and sacrifice bunts. Campbell's hit by pitch season total
is 74, surpassing the 2000 team's record of 56, while its 48
sacrifice bunts is a single season best. Campbell leads the A-Sun in hit by
pitch and is fourth in sacrifice bunts.
Duke (34-17-1, 8-17-1 ACC) has been unstoppable in non-conference
contests as it carries a 26-0 out of league mark into Tuesday's
game. Duke has never gone
undefeated in non-conference play in the schools history.
After owning a five game winning streak, Duke ran into a road block
last weekend as it was swept by in-state foe and ACC opponent Wake
Forest. The Blue Devils
were outscored 19-8 in the three games.
Undoubtedly Campbell's worst defensive outing came in the
institutions' last meeting as the Camels committed a season-high
eight errors and were downed 16-2. Campbell used nine pitchers in the
contest and saw Duke blast 20 hits. Three different players had multi-RBI
games as both Nate Freiman and Gabriel Saade each had three.
After the mid-week contest Campbell returns home on Thursday (May
15) and Friday (May 16) to face the Lipscomb Bisons in an extremely
important A-Sun series.
Thursday's contest is set for 4 p.m., while Friday's doubleheader
will begin at 1 p.m.
