BUIES
CREEK,
N.C.-Campbell senior leftfielder Courtney Quinn can add one more
award to her growing number of accomplishments this season, being
named to the Louisville Slugger Southeast All-Region Second Team by
the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday.
Quinn,
in her second and final season at CU after a two-year stint at
Okaloosa Walton College, has already picked up All-Atlantic Sun
First Team and All A-Sun Tournament spots, while grabbing an
all-tournament selection at the Lowcountry College Softball
Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern earlier in the
season.
The
senior is also one of just of seven players in Division I to amass
at least 20 home runs in 2008, matching that number last Saturday
as Quinn belted a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the
10th inning to win the A-Sun Championship for the
Camels.
Campbell's
leftfielder is also ranked nationally in several other offensive
categories, including RBI (0.73 pg, 99th), doubles (0.31
pg, 36th), walks (0.63 pg, 49th) and slugging
percentage (.741, 29th). Quinn's 20 homers and 39 walks
are CU softball single season records, and her 19 doubles this
season rank second all-time.
Quinn
is the fifth Camel in program history to be recognized by
regionally by the NFCA, and the first since 2005 when Holly Harris
took home second team honors. Martha Covington was named
all-southeast three times, including 1996, '98 and '99, while
Shannon O'Bryan was named to the squad in 2001 and '02. Denelle
Hicks was also honored in 1996.
An
athletic training major, Quinn has registered 10 multi-RBI games
for the Camels this season, including a six RBI tally against
Charleston Southern where the senior went 3-for-4 with a homer and
two doubles, leading Campbell over the Buccaneers, 9-1, in their
Lowcountry College Softball Invitational.
The
All A-Sun performer has scored multiple runs 10 times in a game
this year, picked up three hits or more on nine occasions and
knocked two homers in a game twice, helping the Camels to a 41-23
mark, the second most wins in school history.
Quinn
is one of seven in the A-Sun to be honored, with Cheyenne Jenks and
Carmen Paez of Florida Gulf Coast grabbing first team accolades,
and Morgan Childers of USC Upstate, Amanda Lindsay and Andrea
Migliori from Stetson, as well as Jessica Cross of Kennesaw State
joining Quinn on the second team.
Quinn
and the Camels will face No. 15 Georgia on Thursday in NCAA
Softball Regional action, taking on the Bulldogs in a 1 p.m.
contest at Williams Field in Chapel Hill, N.C.
