MACON, Ga. Campbell's
Sam Tilly has been named the Atlantic Sun
Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week, for the second time
this season, after bettering his NCAA East Regional qualifying mark
in the long jump at the Arkansas Twilight over the
weekend.
For Tilly, his
leap of 7.49m/24'07" bettered his previous regional qualifying mark
of 7.43m/24'04.50" set at the Tony Waldrop Invitational earlier
this season. Tilly's jump of 7.49m was a season-best and placed him
second overall at the prestigious Arkansas Twilight. This is the
sixth time that Tilly has been named the A-Sun Male Track Athlete
of the Week in his career.
Tilly competed
in the NCAA Championships in the long jump as a junior after
winning the NCAA East Regional. Tilly is the current Atlantic Sun
Championships record-holder in the long jump with his leap of
7.44m/24'05.00 last season. He is also the school's all-time leader
in the same event, which he attained last season at Carolina Fast
Times (7.69m/25'02.75").
The senior from
Port Charlotte, Fla. took home the Most Outstanding Male Field
Performer at the 2008 Atlantic Sun Indoor Track & Field
Championships after winning the long jump and triple jump and
placing third in the 60m.
Tilly and the
rest of the Campbell Track & Field team awaits the Atlantic Sun
Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 16-17.
