Tilly Takes Home Second Atlantic Sun Weekly Honor

MACON, Ga. – Campbell's Sam Tilly has been named the Atlantic Sun Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week, for the second time this season, after bettering his NCAA East Regional qualifying mark in the long jump at the Arkansas Twilight over the weekend.

For Tilly, his leap of 7.49m/24'07" bettered his previous regional qualifying mark of 7.43m/24'04.50" set at the Tony Waldrop Invitational earlier this season. Tilly's jump of 7.49m was a season-best and placed him second overall at the prestigious Arkansas Twilight. This is the sixth time that Tilly has been named the A-Sun Male Track Athlete of the Week in his career.

Tilly competed in the NCAA Championships in the long jump as a junior after winning the NCAA East Regional. Tilly is the current Atlantic Sun Championships record-holder in the long jump with his leap of 7.44m/24'05.00 last season. He is also the school's all-time leader in the same event, which he attained last season at Carolina Fast Times (7.69m/25'02.75").

The senior from Port Charlotte, Fla. took home the Most Outstanding Male Field Performer at the 2008 Atlantic Sun Indoor Track & Field Championships after winning the long jump and triple jump and placing third in the 60m.

Tilly and the rest of the Campbell Track & Field team awaits the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 16-17.
