BUIES CREEK, N.C.-The Campbell University football
team completed its first two-a-day session Monday, August 11 under
pleasant low humidity temperatures. The morning session lasted a
little over two hours and was held at CU Football Stadium, while
the evening practice allowed the team to work on the Campbell
Football Grass Practice Field for just over two hours.
Campbell's sixth evening practice of the season began with the
normal field goal drills before the usual individual position
drills. Within the position drills the offensive and defensive
lines both worked with the blocking sled for the first time. The
team then worked on both onside kicking and recovery before the
7-on-7 running drills, which pitted the offensive line and
defensive line against each other in strictly running situations. A
stint of pass skeleton followed highlighted by long pass completion
from Matt Vollono to Josh Owens.
The defense also had its moments including a big stop from
Freddie Shine. The team finished the evening with
the goal line offense and defense competing against each other.
"Overall
today was a solid day of practice," Head coach Dale
Steele explained. "I was very pleased with the way we came
out and competing in the morning. I thought that was one of the
best practices we've had this season. The day of rest allowed the
team to come out fresh and ready to play. In the evening we came
out a little slow, but the important thing is we continued
competing and finished the day strong."
Campbell has a
single full-pads session on Tuesday starting at 5:15 p.m. at
Campbell Football Grass Practice Field.
