BUIES
CREEK,
N.C.-After a disappointing start to the 2008 season last weekend,
Campbell volleyball looks to gather its first win of the year,
traveling to High Point on Tuesday.

Beginning at 7 p.m. inside
the Mills Athletic Center, the contest will feature a Panther team
that escaped the East Carolina Classic with a 1-2 record, while CU
comes into the week with an 0-3 mark after competition at the
Hilton RTP / North Carolina Central Invitational.

HPU took its season opener,
3-0, against Howard on day one of the tourney, but fell to Atlantic
Sun conference member East Tennessee State, 3-2, and the hosting
Pirates, 3-0, on Saturday. So far this year, six Panthers are
averaging 2.0 kills per game or better, including outside hitter
Audie Gonzalez (2.64), outside hitter Ashley Mellott (2.50), middle
blocker Stephanie Wallin (2.27), middle blocker Lindsay Raus
(2.18), middle blocker Anna Lott (2.09) and outside hitter Megan
Kaminskas (2.00).

Meanwhile, Campbell, starting
six underclassmen, is averaging 7.89 kills per game as a team, with
sophomore outside hitter Emily Werner leading the way at 2.00 per
frame. Werner also averages 2.00 digs per contest while freshman
defensive specialist Lauren Garza fronts the Camels at 2.44 per
set.

Last season, the Camels
faltered to High Point, 3-0, in Carter Gym, as the now departed
Jamie Kaufman torched CU for 13 kills, three aces and four digs.
Audie Gonzalez, now a junior on the Panther team, pitched in 12
kills of her own, with eight digs and two aces tacked on. Setter
Kristina Taylor pitched in a double-double for HPU, recording 31
assists and 15 digs with two aces and a pair of blocks.

Despite 10.0 team blocks, the
Fighting Camels could not overcome 32 team errors, or their .082
hitting percentage as a unit, dropping the match 30-24, 30-9,
30-27.

After facing the Panthers, CU
will head to Elon for its second and final tournament of the
season, the Elon Volleyball Classic. The tourney, opening on
Friday, Sept. 5, will feature four teams, including UNC Wilmington
and North Carolina A&T in addition to the Camels and the
Phoenix.
