Pioneer Football League Picks Campbell Ninth

ST. LOUIS — In the Pioneer Football League's Preseason Coaches Poll, announced this afternoon, Campbell's football program was predicted to finish ninth the conference.

The Camels, who are beginning their first season of football in 58 seasons this year and their first season in the Pioneer Football League, received a total of nine points. In the poll, no coach was allowed to vote for their own team and each first-place vote counted for eight points.

San Diego, who have won or shared the PFL title in each of the last three seasons, were picked to win the regular season championship with a total of 58 points including two first-place votes.

Dayton, who actually tied for the most first-place tallies with Davidson at three each, finished second with 55 points. Davidson rounded out the competitive top-three with 51 points. Morehead State was picked fourth (48 points). Drake totaled 36 points, followed by Jacksonville (29), Butler (19) and Valparaiso (19).

Campbell continues fall camp this afternoon with a session from 4:05-6:20 p.m. in preparation for the opening day against Birmingham-Southern on August 30 at 1 p.m.
