BOONE, N.C. - Campbell played for a tie
for the second time in three games after tying Appalachian State
1-1 on Monday afternoon. Hanna Salmen scored the tying goal for the
Camels in the 86th minute.
Campbell (0-1-2) and Appalachain State
(0-0-1) went scoreless in the first half after combining for only
three shots in the half. The only scoring threat in the first half
came for the Mountaineers when Casey Cleary ripped a shot that went
off the crossbar just seven minutes into the game.
Jennifer MacNeil put the Mountaineers on
the board first with a goal in the 54th minute. She was
able to put the ball in the back of the net off of a cross from
Stephanie Balzano to make it 1-0 in favor of the home team.
With under five minutes to play Hanna
Salmen struck for the Camels to score the game tying goal. Freshman
Olga Ekblom found Salmen streaking to the goal inside the 18 yard
box to knot the score at 1-1.
The two teams played two 10 minute
overtime periods but both teams were unable to break the deadlock.
The Camels were able to record three shots during the bonus periods
but Mountaineer goalkeeper Caroline Clark was able to keep the game
tied.
The Camels will return to the road this
week as the travel to Lexington, Va. to face VMI on Saturday at 2
p.m.
