NASHVILLE, Tenn. An early goal from Kaili Terry wasn't
enough as Campbell fell to Belmont 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. It was the first conference loss
for the Camels as they fell to 2-4-2 on the season and 1-1 in
league play. Belmont is now
7-3-0 on the year and a perfect 2-0 in conference action.
The Camels got on the board in the 11th minute as Terry
was able to find the back of the net for the third time in the past
three games. Olga Ekblom
dribbled down the left side before her cross deflected off the
crossbar and Terry was able to corral the ball put it in the net to
give Campbell at 1-0 lead.
The Bruins were able to knot the game at 1-1 in the 17th
minute thanks to the first of two goals from Jamie Loftis. Loftis dribbled into the middle
of the 18 yard box and was able to sneak the ball past goalkeeper
Boomie Luck.
The game was deadlocked at 1-1 at the half as both teams had almost
identical stats in the first 45 minutes. Both teams had 10 shots in the half
and both goalkeepers recorded 6 saves as well. The teams each had a corner kick
apiece in the half but the Camels held a 5-1 lead in fouls during
the half.
Less than a minute after halftime Loftis struck again for the game
winner. She once again was
able to beat Luck and her shot rolled into the left corner of the
goal.
Campbell returns home next weekend for their first league game at
home this season. The
Camels will take on Florida Gulf Coast at 5 p.m. on Thursday before
facing Stetson on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at the Eakes
Athletic Complex.
