BUIES CREEK, N.C. Former Army standout Nicki
Carr has been named assistant softball coach, Campbell
head coach Drew Peterson announced this afternoon,
Sept. 29. With the Camels, Carr's primary responsibilities will be
with the hitters and the outfielders. She will also oversee the
team's academic progress, equipment management and the team's
strength and conditioning program.
"The benefits of adding Nicki to our
staff can't be overstated considering the wealth of experience she
has leading individuals, her high level of integrity and work
ethic, and her great understanding of team dynamics," said
Peterson. "Of course her success as a student-athlete gives her
instant credibility, but her competitive drive and ability to
positively overcome adverse situations will also serve as a
tremendous example to our ladies."

Fighting Camels after six years in the Army holding a variety of
leadership positions as a commissioned officer in the Air Defense
Artillery including Launcher Platoon Leader, Tactical Control

years. While playing for Army, Carr also was a
four-time member of the Mid-Atlantic Region All-American first

Four-times she was chosen as Army's
Offensive Player of the Year and she also earned an invitation for
a tryout with the 2004 USA Olympic Softball Team (2002). Further,
she was selected for the Patriot League's All-Decade Softball Team
(1990-2000) despite only having played two of the years in the
decade. Upon graduation, Carr was awarded with the
Army Athletic Association Trophy. The Army Athletic Association
Trophy is the Army's highest athletic honor and is presented to the
male and female cadet who has provided "the most valuable service
to intercollegiate athletics during a career as a
cadet."
Carr departed the academy with nine
career records including the mark for games played (179), batting
average (.422), hits (230), home runs (17), doubles (56), runs

(7 set in 1999).
Still considered one of the greatest
hitters to pass through the program, she became the first Army
softball player to collect 200 hits, 50 doubles, and 100 runs
batted in and was the second to score 100 runs (113). The former
right fielder also led Army to their first two postseason trips to
the NCAA Tournament as a Division I program (2000 and
2002).
A physical fitness aficionado, the 2002
West Point graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Geopolitics and a minor in Environmental Engineering, has

Events.
She and her husband, CPT Christian A.
Carr, reside in Lillington, N.C.
"I'm very grateful for the opportunity
to work with this accomplished Campbell softball team and staff,"
Carr explained. "Coach Peterson is a great mentor and someone from
whom I can learn so much. As a resident of the community I've heard
nothing but great things about the quality people and programs at
Campbell and I am excited to support this talented group in the
years to come."
Five all-conference and three North
Carolina College Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) all-state
selections are set to return in 2009 for Campbell, including
catcher Amanda Littlejohn, who notched a CU record
72 RBI last season and junior hurler Brittany
Stanley, who set the single season mark for wins with
26.
Carr comes to a Fighting Camel program
that put up a 42-25 overall record in 2008, sweeping the Atlantic
Sun Conference Tournament in the process, all while setting school
records for runs scored (350), hits (511), doubles (100), runs
batted in (325), home runs (64) and on-base percentage
(.382).
