BUIES
CREEK,
N.C.-Junior forward Geami Britt poured in a game-high 18 points on
7-of-11 shooting, one of three Lady Camels in double figures, but
Jacksonville topped Campbell 72-57 in Atlantic Sun women's
basketball action Saturday afternoon inside the John W. Pope, Jr.
Convocation Center.
The Lady Camels fall to 8-8
overall and 1-6 in A-Sun play, dropping their fourth consecutive
decision. Jacksonville, meanwhile, moves to 10-7 and 6-2 in league
action.
Britt's 18 tallies tied a
career high for the Campbellton, Fla. native, who added two
rebounds, steals and blocks each off the bench. Joining Britt were
senior guard Lauren Arthur and junior forward Gara Bell, who
collected 10 points on the afternoon. Arthur also grabbed five
rebounds while Bell pulled down eight with a block in the
loss.
Sophomore forward Lauren Yesh
tacked on eight points with seven rebounds, while freshman guard
Amanda O'Neill recorded seven points with five boards. O'Neill
added three assists with one rejection.
For the Dolphins, senior
guard Regina Omoite led the way with 16 points, including a 4-of-7
performance from behind the arc, adding 11 assists in the win.
DaVina Hamilton, another JU senior guard, posted 15 points with
five assists and five steals, while Virginia Gregoire and Desarae
Johnson registered 11 points each. Johnson, who connected on 5-of-6
shots from the floor, paced the Dolohins on the glass with seven
rebounds.
Trailing by eight with seven
minutes remaining in the first half, an Ashley Williamson layup
followed by a pair of three pointers from Britt knotted the game at
24-all, sparking a 13-4 run that put the Lady Camels out front at
the break, 29-28.
After a pair of Yesh free
throws to open the second half, seven straight Dolphin tallies gave
JU a 37-31 advantage. The Lady Camels then responded with a pair of
threes from Arthur and O'Neill to tie the contest again with 16:02
remaining.
By the 11:31 mark, the
Dolphins owned a 49-47 lead, however, a 20-2 JU surge that lasted
until the 3:42 mark pitted the Lady Camels with a 20-point deficit
with time winding down. Campbell would score eight of the final 11
points, but could not overcome the Dolphins lead, falling
72-57.
The Lady Camels will conclude
their two-game home-stand on Monday, hosting North Florida at 5:45
p.m. in Buies Creek.
