MACON, GA.-After winning
both the 60 and 200 meter dashes at the Liberty Open last weekend,
Campbell's Greg Dunston has been named the Atlantic Sun's male
Athlete of the Week.
Dunston, a
senior from Raleigh, N.C., grabbed his first win of the indoor
season in the men's 60 meters, posting the top qualifying time of
6.95, the only competitor to break the 7.00 barrier. Dunston then
bettered his time, finishing with a 6.93 clip to take the
victory.
In the men's
200 meter race, the senior sprinter walked away with his second win
of the day, claiming a time of 22.83, just in front of Liberty's
Phil Leineweber, who finished at the 22.85 mark.
The wins were
Dunston's fifth and sixth overall of his collegiate career, and his
second and third of the indoor variety.
Last season,
Dunston, claimed the A-Sun 60 meter indoor championship and
all-conference recognition with a time of 6.85, setting a new
Campbell record in the process. Dunston also set a school outdoor
record last year, trimming the men's 100 meter time to a swift
10.55 at the Winthrop Invitational. Dunston, one of five Camels to
qualify for the NCAA's in 2008, was also a winner of the A-Sun's
outdoor 100 meter championship last May.
The six-time
all-conference performer (three indoor, three outdoor) garnered
conference athlete of the week honors once last season, winning a
pair of events at the Irwin Belk Invitational (outdoor).
Dunston, a
criminal justice major, also came away with a pair of first-place
finishes at that event. He was the victor in the 100 meters with a
time of 10.90 and the 200 meters in 21.89. The sprinter won the 100m by
defeating teammate Cardel
Johnson, who placed second.
So far this
year, Dunston has posted the A-Sun's top 60 meter time, while
claiming the league's second-best 200 meter mark behind East
Tennessee State's Quentin Greenlee, who recorded a 22.37 at the
Appalachian Indoor Open.
Campbell
will be back in
action this weekend, traveling to Chapel Hill, NC. for the Carolina
Classic on Friday and Saturday.
