BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell's football team (1-4, 0-3 Pioneer
Football League) gets out of conference play and heads to the road
again to take on Old Dominion (4-2) on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
The game will be the second night game of the season for the Camels
as the team looks to snap a four-game skid.
Last time out, Oct. 10, the Camels raced out to 14-0 lead but then
saw Dayton score 35 of the next 38 points in a 35-17 loss.
Sophomore Rashaun Brown ran for a
team-high 55 yards and had a 42-yard touchdown run for Campbell.
Redshirt junior quarterback Daniel Polk and wide
receiver Paul Constantine connected
on a 60-yard touchdown pass play for CU. The touchdown was the
fifth in the career of the sophomore receiver.
CU will bring a talented offense to the contest and currently lead
the PFL and rank 12th nationally in rushing (197.40 yards per
game). The Camels are also the third-best offensive yardage team in
the league and 46th nationally at 348.60 yards per contest.
Campbell's scoring offense of 22.60 points a game is sixth in the
Pioneer Football League. The Camels have four players that among
the top-20 in the PFL in rushing. Redshirt sophomore CJ Oates
is the fourth leading rusher in the league and 72nd among all
runners in the NCAA with his average of 58.80 yards a contest. Rashaun
Brown is tied for seventh in the league in rushing (48.40).
Polk is just behind Brown with his average of 47.40 rushing yards a
contest (9th in the PFL). Redshirt sophomore Carl
Smith is 16th in the league in rushing (30.80) and
is tied for fifth in scoring with his four rushing touchdowns and
average of 4.80 points a game. The Camels remain one of the more
difficult teams to sack in the league and are only giving up a 1.40
sacks a game. The CU defense also has had its outstanding moments
and are the third-best pass defense in the league (152.80).
Individually, redshirt sophomore Christian Dixon has three
interceptions and is ranked second in the Pioneer Football League
and tied for 13th nationally with his average of .60
interceptions a contest. CU also sports three players that are
among the top tacklers in the PFL in redshirt junior Lee
Stanley (3rd), redshirt sophomore Milton
Brown (8th) and sophomore Cody Lyon
(11th).
Old Dominion defeated Presbyterian 34-16 over the weekend to snap a
two-game losing streak. The Monarchs are in their first year of
being a competing football program after two previous years of
preparation. ODU started the 2009 campaign with three consecutive
wins before the losing skid. One of Old Dominion's wins this season
was over Campbell PFL rival Jacksonville on Sept. 19. The Monarchs
are led by their outstanding quarterback Thomas DeMarco. DeMarco
has accounted for 18 touchdowns this season. His seven rushing
touchdowns and 382 yards on the ground lead the team, as does his
1.079 yards passing and 11 touchdowns through the air. Freshman
running back Mario Crawford has also had an outstanding first year
with 382 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Defensively the
Monarchs have been wrecking havoc with 32 tackles for loss, 14
sacks, 11 interceptions and 12 fumbles recovered. Junior linebacker
Mychael McJunkins has totaled 50 tackles for ODU. Redshirt
sophomore defensive lineman Chris King has eight tackles for loss.
Redshirt freshman defensive back Craig Wilkins has 41 tackles, a
sack, three interceptions and three pass breakups this season.
