BEALLSVILLE,
Md. - The Campbell University men's golf team fired a first round
301 (+17) and are tied for fifth at the 25th annual
Georgetown Intercollegiate, on Monday afternoon.
Due to heavy rains over the weekend and a frost delay in the
morning, play was limited to just 18-holes on Monday. Play was
originally scheduled for 36-holes on the opening day.
Sophomore Vaita Guillaume led the
Camel scoring after an opening round 73 on the 7,102 yard, par-71,
Members Club at Four Streams layout. Guillaume currently sits in a
tie for ninth as only two players in the entire field shot below
par on the cold and soggy day. Guillaume also led the field with
15 pars and finished under-par on the par-4 holes.
Washington State sits in first after a first round 285 (+1). They
own an 11 shot lead over both UNC Greensboro and Richmond (+12).
Detroit Mercy stands in fourth (+15) and DePaul sits in a tie for
fifth along with the Camels in the 12-team event.
The Washington State duo of Hank Frame and Trent Sanders currently
own the top two spots individually as Frame fired a 68 and Sanders
firing a 69. Daniel Walker is the only other player in the field
under par as he fired a one-under 70.
The Campbell duo of Matt Moot and Mitch
Gray both currently sit in the top-15 individually as both
fired identical rounds of 75. Zak Drescher sits in a tie
for 37th after a first round 78 and Victor
Hielte sits in a tie for 44th after an opening round
79, to round out the scoring for the Camels.
The final round gets underway tomorrow morning at approximately
9:30.
