BUIES CREEK, N.C.-The Lady Camels will make their first appearance
of the 2009-10 season away from Buies Creek on Wednesday, heading
to Durham for a 5:30 p.m. matchup with North Carolina Central.
Campbell, at 1-1, will take on the Eagles, who sit winless at 0-2
after trips to No. 21 Maryland and Morgan State. NCCU is averaging
38.5 points per game in the pair, while allowing 81.5 on the short
season and shooting .278. The Eagles are also averaging 29.5
turnovers per game.
The Eagles are led by Joanna Miller, who is averaging a team-high
9.0 points per game with four rebounds. The freshman guard has not
logged a start, however, Miller leads the team with 30.5 minutes
per game. Senior forward Latoya Bennett, meanwhile, is chipping in
8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds a game.
The Lady
Camels are coming off a 66-59 loss to Coastal Carolina, a game
where CU trailed by as many as 19 in the second half before cutting
the contest to three with one minute remaining.
Freshman guard Tonisha
Baker led the way for the Lady Camels with 17 points on 7-of-14
shooting, adding four boards and two steals. Junior forward
Lauren
Yesh added 11 points with six rebounds and two blocks. Junior
guard Courtney
Cannon was a third Lady Camel in double figures, chipping in 10
points with three rebounds.
Senior center Ashley
Williamson posted seven points, while senior forward Geami
Britt recorded five points and two assists. Sophomore guard Amanda
O'Neill also notched four points for Campbell against the
Chanticleers.
Baker, at 15.0 points per game, ranks second among freshmen in the
A-Sun in scoring, and sixth overall, standing as the only Lady
Camel to reach double figures in both of their 2009-10 games.
Campbell has owned the all-time series between the schools, with
the Lady Camels holding a 7-2 advantage. The series will be back in
rotation for the first time since 1980. The pair played each of its
nine games from 1976 until 1980.
After the trip to Durham, the Lady Camels will head to UNC
Asheville on Tuesday, taking on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
