BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell women's basketball head coach Wanda
Watkins has announced the signing of Roslyn Presley
(Petersburg, Va.), Casey Elliot (Wilson, N.C.) and Jessica Moore
(Jacksboro, Tenn.) to national letters of intent. All three will
join the Lady Camels for the 2010-11 season.
"These three young ladies were instant fits when they visited our
campus for their official visits," said Watkins. "They are
excellent students and will add an abundance of basketball savvy to
our team ad program at Campbell. We welcome each of them and their
families to our Campbell University family."
Presley, a 5-foot-11 forward, was named Virginia's State Player of
the Year in 2008, and has been a two-time Tri Rivers District
Player of the Year (2007-08, 2008-09), Region A Player of the Year
(2007-08, 2008-09), Region A First Team member (2007-08, 2008-09)
and Division I First Team member (2007-08, 2008-09) while playing
at Appomatox Regional Governor's School for head coach Rodney
Gore.
"Roslyn is an explosive, gutsy and athletic player who plays much
larger than she is in size," said Watkins. "She can face or play
with her back to the basket and is a leaper. She is a natural
rebounder that pours her heart into the game. She is well-rounded
and leads by example. She will continue to add more athleticism to
our team. Her award and honors are amazing considering she still
has her senior year ahead of her."
Presley also earned Tri City First Team, Tri Rivers First Team and
McDonald's Tidewater Academy Girls' Christmas Tournament MVP three
times each from 2006-09. The Richmond Times Dispatch named Presley
to its All-Metro Second Team in 2007-08 after the forward reached
1,000 career points in just two seasons.
In 2008, Presley was voted by the Associated Press to the first
unit of the AP's all-Group A girls basketball team after averaging
25.5 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks per game that season.
Further, Presley earned 2009 AAU Bill and Ann Tipps Tournament
All-American status in the 16 and under/11th grade
division. Presley has also been an all-academic performer in each
of the past three seasons while serving as team captain.
Casey Elliott, a 5-foot-9 guard who can play either the point or
the shooting guard position, will conclude her career at
Beddingfield High School in Wilson, where she played alongside
current Lady Camel freshman guard Monique
Spry, making Elliott the second player in as many years that
Campbell has signed out of Debra Pegram's program.
"Casey is a fundamentally sound guard that makes everyone around
her a better player," said Watkins of her signee. "She is unselfish
and gets her greatest joy as a player, I believe, in assisting
others to score. And Casey has the capability to score too, on the
inside and the outside of the arc."
Elliot ranked second in the state of North Carolina in assists per
game at 7.3 a contest according to Max Preps, and third in field
goal percentage. While averaging 11 points to go along with her 7.3
assists per game, Elliott all-district and all-conference in 2009.
Elliott was also an Beddingfield's Christmas All-Tournament team in
2007, 2008 and 2009.
In 2008, Elliott help Beddingfield to the N.C. State Championship
game, and averaged 8.9 points with 6.5 assists. Elliott is also the
valedictorian of her class.
The last of the bunch, Jessica Moore, is a 5-foot-8 shooting guard
from Campbell County High School in Jacksboro, Tenn. Moore, a
sharp-shooter from long range, can also play at the small forward
position.
"Jessica will bring an added dimension to our team with her
scorer's mentality," said Watkins. "She is a player that will take
the three point shot with confidence, and has good size and
strength for the perimeter. She possesses good passing skills that
will enhance our guard play when she joins us next season."
Moore had a standout year as a junior with Campbell County,
averaging 16 points and four rebounds per game. The guard also
collected 2.5 steals on the way to all-district 3A and
all-tournament 3A honors. Moore nailed 71 three pointers on the
season, while hitting over 70 percent of her free throw
attempts.
The Lady Camels, after defeating North Carolina Central 79-63 on
Wednesday on the road in Durham, will be back in action on Tuesday
night at UNC Asheville.
