JACKSONVILLE, FLA.-Campbell
recorded three in double figures and forced 27 turnovers, but North
Florida rallied for 61-51
win in Atlantic Sun women's basketball action Saturday afternoon
inside UNF Arena.
Campbell falls to 10-15 overall with a
3-13 conference record while North Florida improves to 6-18 and
5-10 in A-Sun play.
Junior forward Geami Britt
led the way for the Lady Camels with 12 points on the night with a
pair of steals and two rebounds. Rookie guard Amanda O'Neill joined
Britt with 11 points, knocking down a career-high three triples,
while sophomore post Lauren Yesh added 10 points.
Yesh paced the Lady Camels on
the glass with five rebounds, while O'Neill snagged three boards in
the loss. Senior guard Jessica Mack notched six points with four
steals.
Leading the Ospreys was
freshman Brittany Kirkland, who tallied 17 points on 7-of-10
shooting and dished out four assists. Sophomore guard Juliemay
Syquio added 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five
steals in the win. Sophomore forward Brittany Jones, meanwhile,
posted 11 points with four rebounds.
UNF scored first nine points
of the contest, with seven from Kirkland, who ended the opening
stanza with a game-high 11. The Lady Camels finally got on the
board at the 17:11 mark, when Britt drained a three from the
corner.
The Ospreys then reeled off
an 8-2 run over the next four minutes, extending the game to a 17-5
score. The Lady Camels, however, closed the half on a 14-8 run,
facing a 25-19 deficit going into the break.
After trailing by as many as
13 in the second half, the Lady Camels trimmed the UNF lead to
51-43 by the 5:22 mark on another Britt three. That score would
mark a three minute drought for CU, however, as UNF rallied for a
7-0 run, capped off by a Rasley three from the left wing, sealing a
61-51 win for the Ospreys.
The Lady Camels will head
home for the remainder of the regular season, hosting East
Tennessee State in their next contest on Feb. 19. The contest will
be CU's Think Pink game, raising breast cancer awareness. Tip-off
is slated for 7 p.m. inside the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation
Center.
