BUIES
CREEK, N.C. Senior Karlie Love and sophomore
Lizzie
Goldbach each hit a three-run home run to power Campbell's
softball program (9-4) to a 9-1 win over visiting Siena (0-1) on
Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the Eakes Athletic Complex
The
game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when
sophomore Amanda
Miller reached on throwing error by the shortstop. She
moved to second on the walk to sophomore Katie Hinton and both
scored on Love's three-run bomb. For Love it was her league-leading
eighth home run of the season.
After
the Saints struck back with a run of their own in the top of the
fourth on Lauren Weingart's double, Campbell put a three-spot on
the board in the bottom of the frame on Lizzie Goldbach's second
home run of the season. Goldbach three-run home run scored
sophomore Lauren
Stephan and junior Brittany Stanley, who had
each walked earlier in the inning.
The
Camels put the game away with three more runs in the fifth. Love
kept her afternoon perfect by drawing her second walk of the game.
Freshman Brittany
Hubbard was inserted to pinch run and moved to second on
Christina
Melton's single. Hubbard would scamper home on the next
play on the misplay by the
Siena second baseman. A Stanley single then scored Melton. Miller
closed the game out with her single to the gap to bring Stephan in
with the ninth and final run.
Stephan
picked up the win for Campbell in throwing her fourth complete game
of the season. Stephan struck out a season-best seven while only
surrendering a run and five hits. The loss was pinned on Jamie
Piela, who gave up six of the nine runs (three earned) and walked
four.
Campbell
next heads to North Charleston, S.C. to participate in the
Charleston Southern Tourney from Feb. 27-28.
