GREENVILLE, N.C. The
Campbell University women's tennis team got off to a quick start as
they won two of the three doubles matches on the afternoon, but it
wasn't enough as they fell to East Carolina, 5-2, on Wednesday
afternoon.
The loss drops the Lady
Camels to 5-4 overall on the season, while
East Carolina improves to 5-1 on the year.
Campbell got off to a quick start at
the number-two doubles position as Anais Gomar and Blanca Saenz
defeated Rocio Cabanillas and Brooke Walter, 8-5. The Lady Camels clinched the doubles
point in the deciding number-three position as Cortney Armitano and
Borislava Nikolova defeated the ECU duo of Natalie Collins and
Tamara Sachs in a tight match, 9-8.
ECU won five out of the six
singles matches, with three of the matches going to three
sets. One of the matches
was in the number-two position as Campbell got their only singles
win of the afternoon when Ana Surviladze defeated Varinia Soler,
7-6, 0-6, 6-4.
In the number-three position,
ECU's Natalie Collins won a highly contested match against
Borislava Nikolova, 7-5, 3-6, 6-0. The other match that went to three
sets was in the number-six position as Tamara Sachs defeated
Campbell's Tanya Ahuja, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
The Lady Camels will be back
in action next Tuesday as they travel to Boiling Springs to take on
Gardner-Webb. The match is
set for 2:30 p.m.
