BUIES CREEK, N.C.Campbell's swimming team (5-6 overall, 4-3
CCSA) are looking to
rebound off a loss last week to Georgia Southern (178-105) when
they travel up to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on the Gardner-Webb
Bulldogs (6-3) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Campbell is led by Heidi Shallow, who last week
won the 100-breaststroke (1:07.37) and finished second in the 200
IM (2:19.14). Including last week results Shallow has won the
100-breaststroke four times and also finished second once. Shallow
has also been the victor in the 200-breaststroke four times, 200-IM
four times, and has a victory in the 400-IM. The senior has also
posted the conference's second fasted time in the 200-breaststroke
(2:23.81) and the fifth fasted time in the in the 100-breaststroke
(1:07.17).
Another Camel coming off a strong performance over the last two
weeks is Ashlyn
Stumpf. Stumpf has won the 100-freestyle in each of her
last two attempts. Against Georgia Southern not only did Stumpf win
the 100-freestyle (54.13) she also finished second in the
50-freestyle (24.63). On the year, Stumpf has four victories in
both the 50-freestyle and the 100-freestyle.
Freshman Emily
Michael has quietly had a great season and finished third
in the 100-breaststroke (1:10.29), 200-breaststroke (2:33.71), and
the 200-IM (2:19.92) against Georgia Southern. On the year, Michael
has placed in top three in an event 13 different times.
Junior Jackie
Kenline, who has been the most accomplished distance
swimmer on the year for Campbell, had a strong performance last
week in finishing second in the 1,000-freestyle and third in the 500-freestyle. On the
year, Kenline has finished in the top three 14 times.
Gardner-Webb is coming off a win against the College of Charleston
(225-119) on Saturday, Jan. 31. The win against the College of
Charleston snapped a two meet skid. The Bulldogs are especially
strong in the 200-butterfly, 100-backstroke, and the 100-freestyle
after placing first or second in each of those events against the
College of Charleston.
Next up for the Camels will be a
trip to Wilmington, N.C. to face the UNCW Seahawks in the final
meet before the CCSA Championships which starts Feb. 19-21. The
meet with the Seahawks will start at 11 a.m. on the campus of
UNCW.
