CHARLESTON, S.C. The Campbell
University women's tennis team went on the road and dropped a tough
4-3 decision to Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon.
The Campbell (1-2) duo of
Blanca Saenz and Anais Gomar were victorious in the doubles portion
of the match as they defeated Marija Dzakovic and Olga Makhova,
8-6. Charleston Southern
did however earn the doubles point as they won the other two
doubles matches.
On the singles side both
Campbell and Charleston Southern (1-0) earned three victories
apiece. Campbell junior
Blanca Saenz, playing in the number one position defeated Marija
Dzakovic, 6-2, 6-3.
Freshman Anais Gomar defeated Angie Torres, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, while
playing in the number five position. Liza Bensimon earned the other singles
point for the Lady Camels as she defeated Leonie Mandelkow, 6-0,
6-0.
Charleston Southern was able to
defeat Campbell in the last match as both teams were tied with
three points apiece. Four
out of the six singles matches went to third sets as Charleston
Southern was able to take three of those matches.
The Lady Camels return to
action on Friday as they host the Flames of Liberty University
beginning at 1 p.m.
