BUIES CREEK, N.C. The Campbell softball team (17-6, 3-1
Atlantic Sun), after a canceled tournament at the Winthrop/adidas
Invitational last weekend, will again be on the road this week and
gets back into conference play with games against USC Upstate
(March 20) and East Tennessee State (March 21) this weekend.
The
Camels are coming off a nearly two week layoff after last week's
canceled tournament. Junior Brittany Stanley has found
her stride and has gone 3-0 in her last three appearances, a span
that has covered 17 innings from the circle in which she has not
given up a run. Stanley is also getting it done at the plate and
drove in nine runs with two run in her last six games for Campbell.
Junior Robin
Leathers has also begun to emerge and ranks second on the
team with six home run and 20 RBIs.
USC
Upstate (11-3), the reigning Atlantic Sun regular season champions,
are scheduled to take on Furman on Wednesday before welcoming in
Campbell for a two-game set on Friday. The Spartans are led by
senior Heidi Gibbs. Gibbs is hitting .404 with 17 runs scored, 19
hits and four stolen bases. Sophomores Courtney Feldon and Lauren
Quevedo lead the team with three home runs each. Sophomore Morgan
Childers, who was the preseason choice for pitcher of the year, is
off to a strong start with a 9-1 record, 0.88 ERA and 104
strikeouts in her 64 innings from the circle.
The
Buccaneers (15-5) have won six of their last seven games including
four of five at the Under Armour Invitational over the weekend.
Senior outfielder Katie Powell has 23 hits and two triples on the
year. Junior Katy Jett has been steady with 19 runs scored, 22
hits, five doubles and 12 RBIs on the year. Junior Marissa Hardy is
8-2 with a 1.26 ERA this year to go along with 69 strikeouts in her
72 innings pitched.
After
this week of action the Camels return home for a game against #15
North Carolina (March 25) at 6 p.m. CU will then host conference
doubleheaders with Mercer (March 27) and Kennesaw State (March
28).
