BUIES
CREEK,
N.C.-The outdoor season will get fully underway for Campbell this
weekend, as the Camels' track and field squads head to the Raleigh
Relays and the Asics Winthrop Invitational on Friday and
Saturday.
Camel distance runners will
be the sole representatives at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North
Carolina State at the Paul Derr Track & Field Stadium on Friday
and Saturday. Campbell is scheduled to compete in the 10000, 5000
and 1500 meter events.
Campbell's harriers kicked
off the outdoor season last weekend with senior Verrelle Wyatt
notching a fourth place finish in the men's 3000 meters, leading
the Camels' efforts at the Wake Forest Open inside Kentner Stadium.
Wyatt's time of 8:36.15 earned the Copley, Ohio a personal record
in the event, one of 13 individual bests on the day.
Wyatt, again, led the way for
the Camels in the 1500 meters. The senior notched the event's
12th best time, while taking the second best mark in his
section, logging a 4:00.02 for another personal best.
Freshman Rachel Deline legged
out a 10:39.97 for ninth place finish in the 3000 meter race, the
squad's lone top-10 qualifier of the day. In the 1500 meter
portion, Deline led the way again, finishing with a mark of
4:51.79, taking the third best time in her section and
23rd overall. Deline was just one of 42 in the
competition's 103 to finish with a sub-5:00.00 time.
The rest of the
team, meanwhile, will take part in the Winthrop Invitational,
competing in various events at the Belk Track Complex in Rock Hill,
S.C. beginning on Friday before wrapping up one day
later.
Campbell
posted a
successful showing at last season's Winthrop meet, grabbing one
individual crown, one of six top-three finishes on the day for the
Camels. Former Camel Sam Tilly also qualified for NCAA Regional
competition at the event with his 7.38m/24'02.50" in the high jump
last season.
Campbell
will split
squads again next weekend, heading to the Duke Invitational and the
Liberty Collegiate Invitational on Friday, April 3.
