BUIES CREEK, N.C. The Campbell University baseball team will
face a pair of non-conference foes this week. The Camels (8-4, 1-4 A-Sun) will host
Longwood in doubleheader action starting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at
Taylor Field.
Tuesday's
home games will be the first for the Camels in nearly two
weeks. In the last outing
at Taylor Field, Campbell defeated UNC Greensboro by a score of
17-3.
The
Camels and the Lancers have met just twice on the diamond. The series is split at one a
piece, as both teams won on their home field. Longwood currently owns a 7-6 record
this season.
Camels
skipper Greg Goff said, "Longwood is a strong offense team and will
be a challenge for our pitching staff. Coach Bolding has been there for
30-plus seasons, and I look forward to the opportunity to coach
against a legend from the state of Virginia."
After
Tuesday's doubleheader Campbell will face the Eagles of North
Carolina Central on Wednesday. First pitch at the Durham Bulls
Athletic Park is slated for 3 p.m.
The
Camels and the Eagles met twice in 2008, with Campbell taking both
games. North Carolina
Central currently posts a 2-5 mark for 2009. The Camels and the Eagles will also
meet in Buies Creek later this season.
Greg
Goff had this to say about the matchup with the Eagles. "I am looking forward to the
opportunity for our players to play at a minor league
facility. We will have to
piece together our pitching staff for the game on Wednesday. It will be a challenge, but I
expect our players to continue the strong play."
After the trip to the DBAP, the Camels will
return home for a conference series this weekend versus
Mercer. First pitch on
Friday is scheduled for 4 p.m.
