Softball Adds Sarah Ling To 2009 Recruiting Class

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University head softball coach Drew Peterson recently announced the addition of Sarah Ling to his 2009 recruiting class.

Ling (Kathleen, Ga./Houston County High) joins Sarah Forgacs (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) and Brittany Arnn (Danville, Va./Tunstall) as members of 2009-10 Fighting Camels recruiting class.

"In Brittany and both Sarahs we have a talented group of players that are serious about improving the softball team and contributing to team chemistry in a positive manner," Coach Peterson explained. "All three are very competitive and come from proven softball success in their past. I look forward to seeing the impact they will have on the 2009-10 team."

Ling arrives at Campbell after an outstanding high school career at Houston County High. The versatile Ling has played third base her senior season after having started in the outfield the previous two seasons. The three-year varsity softball letterwinner has been part of teams that have accumulated a record of 76-22 and three regional championships her final three seasons.

As a senior Ling hit .424 with three home runs, 26 RBIs and nine doubles. Also in her final season, Ling was an all-state, all-region, all-middle Georgia and all-Georgia selection. She was also an all-region choice as both a sophomore and junior, while also garnering an all-middle Georgia selection in each of those seasons. As a freshman she was named the school's junior varsity MVP.

She is the daughter of Reginald and Sonovia Ling of Kathleen, Ga. and has a younger brother, Reggie.

"At this point in recruiting it is rare that you can find a player of this talent," Peterson explained. "We feel that she will make an immediate impact with the ability to play multiple positions, while also hitting for power and average. Sarah will also contribute to team chemistry with her fun personality and desire to win softball games."

The Fighting Camel program (34-12, 16-4 Atlantic Sun) won the conference regular season championship for the first time since 1995 this season and will go into the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament (May 7-9) as the top seed.

The Camels will next be in action over the weekend when the team completes the regular season and participates in the East Carolina Tournament with games against Virginia Tech (1 p.m.) and East Carolina on May 2nd.
