BUIES CREEK, N.C. The Campbell softball
team (25-11, 10-4 Atlantic Sun), after a busy week that saw the
Camels play eight games in six days, gets back to a normal schedule
and will play four games this week. The Camels start the week with
a make-up doubleheader against Kennesaw State starting at 4 p.m. on
Tuesday. CU will then welcome in Stetson for a conference slate
starting at noon on Saturday.
Junior Robin Leathers
led Campbell to five wins last week with her six home runs, 13 hits
and 13 runs scored. Leathers has now hit 13 home runs this season
to tie for the team lead and allow her along with senior Karlie Love to become only the fourth and fifth
Campbell player ever to reach double figures in home runs in a
season. They, along with Courtney Quinn (20) and Amanda
Littlejohn (15) in 2008, are only the second set of
teammates to accomplish the feat. For her outstanding week Leathers
was named the Atlantic Sun's Player of the Week. She became the
third Campbell player to be named the conference's player of the
week this season. Sophomore closer Katie
Woodcock continued to shine and picked up two more saves
last week. Woodcock has now earned a nation leading six saves on
the year. Junior Brittany Stanley also
pitched well last week in winning three games with 21 strikeouts in
her 24.2 innings of work.
Kennesaw State (15-16, 2-4 Atlantic Sun) swept
Stetson over the weekend but then dropped a pair to Florida Gulf
Coast. Redshirt junior Klair Wells leads
the Owls with a .318 batting average to go along with 34 hits,
three home runs and 10 RBIs. Fellow junior Jenny
Closner has been the team's best RBI threat with 21 runs
batted in. Freshman April Harper leads
the team with six wins and 13 games started. The Owls are in a
stretch of playing 10 games in an eight day period of time.
Stetson (20-20, 3-7 Atlantic Sun) has lost six
in a row and seven of their last eight games including getting
swept over the weekend by Mercer and Kennesaw State. Junior Amy Joyce leads the team with her .303 batting
average, 24 runs scored and 37 hits. Senior Andrea
Migliori is among the conference leaders with her nine
home runs and also has contributed 23 RBIs. The pitching staff is
led by senior Erica Demers, who is 9-10
with 1.34 ERA and 17 complete games. Junior Amanda
Lindsey has also pitched well with 10 wins and 153
strikeouts in her 129.2 innings pitched.
The Camels travel to take on South Carolina
State in a doubleheader early next week (4/14) before coming home
to take on conference leader Florida Gulf Coast (4/18) in a double
dip starting at noon.
