CREEK, N.C.- Campbell head football coach Dale
Steele has added Jody Stouffer and
Chris Ballance to his coaching staff for the 2009
season.
Stouffer will serve as the running backs coach after most recently
working as the head coach and defensive coordinator at Lee County
High School (LCHS) from July 2005-January 2009. In his four years
as the head coach, 21 former Yellow Jackets signed
letters-of-intent to play college football. In his first year as
the head coach, 2005, Stouffer led LCHS to the 4A District title,
the Sectional Championship and the team finished as the East Region
Runner-up. As a head coach, Stouffer was also able to mentor
current Campbell players Mike Stryffeler and
Jon-Michael Stone.
Stouffer began his 16-year coaching career working for his alma
mater at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania following his playing
career.
"Coach Stouffer had been a head football coach in the state of
North Carolina for the last four years so he is very familiar with
North Carolina High School Football and the type of in-state
players that we looking for," Steele stated. "He is an excellent
football coach that brings a wealth of experience in working with
and getting the best out of young people. He is also a great
character individual that we are excited about bringing into the
family."
Stouffer was a three-year offensive line starter at Kutztown from
1989-1994. In 1994 he earned his bachelor's degree in art education
while also serving as the team captain. While at Kutztown, Stouffer
also was teammates with former Denver Broncos linebacker John
Mobley.
In addition to his football duties Stouffer has worked as the Art
Education Teacher at Lee County for the last five years while also
teaching courses in weight lifting. Stouffer replaces former
Campbell coach Jonathan Riba on the coaching
staff.
Stouffer is married and lives in Sanford with his wife, Melissa,
and daughter, Savannah.
Ballance, who will fill the role of defensive assistant, comes to
Campbell after most recently working as an Assistant Coach at New
Bern High School last season. At New Bern, Ballance worked as the
Head Junior Varsity Coach and Offensive Coordinator. He was in
charge of creating the team's practice schedules, game plan for the
offense and worked extensively with the junior varsity's
quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers. Also while at New
Bern he worked with and assisted the varsity's offensive
coordinator. During the school hours he worked as teacher of the
high school courses U.S. History, Civics and Economics during his
time at New Bern.
Prior to working at New Bern, Ballance worked as graduate assistant
at East Carolina for two years (2006-08) while obtaining his
master's degree in exercise and sports science. As a GA at East
Carolina the first-year Campbell coach worked closely with ECU's
receivers while also assisting in film breakdown and aiding in the
creation of the offensive game plans for the wide receivers.
Ballance also coordinated the scout team defense during practice
and helped organize and run the team's recruiting weekends.
Ballance earned his bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science
from East Carolina University in 2006. While earning his
undergraduate degree the Havelock, N.C. native aided the football
program in a variety of ways. He began his time working as the
student equipment manager for three and half years, where he
oversaw the seven other student managers. Ballance worked his way
up to the position of student assistant for his final six months,
where he worked closely with the special teams coach and aided the
special team area in film break down and game plans. He also aided
in the organization of the Junior Recruiting Days, High School
Coaches Clinics and ECU Summer Camps.
The 25-year old Ballance is married to Maria Montesano-Ballance. He
resides in Buies Creek.
"We are glad to have Coach Ballance with us," Steele said. "He
coached at New Bern High School last year and prior to that he
spent a few years as a graduate assistant coach at East Carolina.
As a late addition to the staff he has done a great job of adapting
quickly to our system. We are really proud of what he has done and
everything he has focused on to fit in with the rest of the staff.
We feel he will be valuable asset to our program."
Stouffer and Ballance join Art Link,
Jerrick Hall, Oscar Olejniczak, Greg
Williams, Paul Troth and Landon Mariani
on the Campbell coaching staff.
Ballance replaces former Campbell coach J.K.
Sommers.
