Men's Golf Begins Fall Campaign at Tucker Intercollegiate

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell University men's golf team gets their fall campaign underway Friday as they open their season at the 55th annual Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The tournament, which is hosted by the University of New Mexico will be played at the 7,591-yard, par 72 UNM South Championship Course. The UNM South Course has been recognized by one of the top campus courses in the nation by several publications. The Tucker Invitational is also the second oldest men's collegiate tournament in the country.

The 54-hole event will begin with a 9:30 a.m.(EST) shotgun start on both Friday and Saturday, with 36-holes being played on Friday.

The Camels return six letterwinners from last season's Atlantic Sun Championship team, including all-conference and all-freshman performer, Vaita Guillaume. Zak Drescher, Matt Moot, Mitch Gray and Victor Hielte join Guillaume in the Campbell lineup for the event.

The 17-team field features ten teams that made it to NCAA regional competition, including Texas A&M, the 2009 NCAA Champions. UNLV, the defending champions of the event is also scheduled to be in the field.

The Camels participated in the event last year and finished with a three round team score of 901 to finish in 10th place overall. Guillaume was Campbell's low individual finisher as he finished in a tie for 26th-place at seven-over 223 (76-73-74).

The Tucker Invitational continues to be one of the strongest collegiate tournaments in the nation and it has featured some of the best collegiate players in the nation. Some players that have played in the event include: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Johnnie Miller, Adam Scott, Jim Furyk and many other past and present PGA Tour superstars.

Following this weekend's Tucker Intercollegiate, the Camels return to action September 25-27 when they travel to the North Carolina coast for the Sea Trail Intercollegiate.
