BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell University men's golf team gets
their fall campaign underway Friday as they open their season at
the 55th annual Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque,
New Mexico.
The tournament, which is hosted by the University of New Mexico
will be played at the 7,591-yard, par 72 UNM South Championship
Course. The UNM South Course has been recognized by one of the top
campus courses in the nation by several publications. The Tucker
Invitational is also the second oldest men's collegiate tournament
in the country.
The 54-hole event will begin with a 9:30 a.m.(EST) shotgun start on
both Friday and Saturday, with 36-holes being played on Friday.
The Camels return six letterwinners from last season's Atlantic Sun
Championship team, including all-conference and all-freshman
performer, Vaita Guillaume. Zak
Drescher, Matt Moot, Mitch
Gray and Victor Hielte join Guillaume
in the Campbell lineup for the event.
The 17-team field features ten teams that made it to NCAA regional
competition, including Texas A&M, the 2009 NCAA Champions.
UNLV, the defending champions of the event is also scheduled to be
in the field.
The Camels participated in the event last year and finished with a
three round team score of 901 to finish in 10th place
overall. Guillaume was Campbell's low individual finisher as he
finished in a tie for 26th-place at seven-over 223
(76-73-74).
The Tucker Invitational continues to be one of the strongest
collegiate tournaments in the nation and it has featured some of
the best collegiate players in the nation. Some players that have
played in the event include: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Johnnie
Miller, Adam Scott, Jim Furyk and many other past and present PGA
Tour superstars.
Following this weekend's Tucker Intercollegiate, the Camels return
to action September 25-27 when they travel to the North Carolina
coast for the Sea Trail Intercollegiate.
