BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Megan Reimer scored twice to lead
Gardner-Webb to a 2-1 women's soccer victory over Campbell on
Monday night.
Reimer's 44th minute goal came just after Camel defender Jeannie
Borda was sent off after receiving her second yellow card of the
match. The Camels played the final 46:42 down one player, but
nearly tied the contest early in the second half when Hanna Salmen
hit the post with a shot.
However, both teams finished a scoreless final period with just one
shot on target and Gardner-Webb's 2-1 lead stood. The Camels
defeated the Bulldogs by the same score line last year at Buies
Creek.
Reimer put Gardner-Webb (3-3) in front in the sixth minute when she
scored off Megan Tremblay's re-start.
Kaili Terry equalized off a free kick in the 38th minute to draw
the Camels level. However, after Borda's second yellow at 43:18,
Reimer completed her double on the ensuing direct kick on a feed
from Stephanie Benshoof.
Campbell (2-3) dropped its second, 2-1 decision in the span of
three days following Saturday's loss to Appalachian State. CU
began a busy 3-matches-in-5-days stretch last Thursday with a 2-0
victory over South Carolina State.
Gardner-Webb finished with a 14-9 edge in shots, 5-4 in shots on
goal. Samantha Rupert had three saves in the Bulldog nets, while
Jamie Panfil made two stops for Campbell.
Campbell returns to action on Saturday when it hosts VMI in a 2:00
p.m. kickoff.
