CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell University women's team has been picked
to finish seventh in the conference according to the league's
coaches, the Atlantic Sun Conference office announced today.
The team returns six key players from last year's team that
finished fourth in the regular season standings, including Borislava Nikolova, an
all-freshman team selection from a year ago, and Blanca
Saenz, a former all-conference selection. They also advanced
to the A-Sun semifinals as they were defeated by top seeded
Stetson.
Stetson was picked to win the league just slightly over defending
tournament champions East Tennessee State. The Hatters earned six
first place votes while the Bucs picked up three. North Florida
was tabbed third while picking up a first place vote, USC Upstate
was picked fourth while earning a first place vote, while
Jacksonville and Kennesaw State round out the top six.
ETSU senior Yevgeniya Stupak was picked as the league's preseason
player of the year. Stupak is the reigning A-Sun player of the
year.
Campbell gets its season underway January 22 as they will
participate in the VCU Indoor Invitational. Campbell will take on
the host VCU at noon followed by a match with George Mason at 5:00
p.m.
