N.C. - In the final tune-up before the Atlantic Sun Championship,
Terence
Attema (Smithville, Ontario) continued his strong campaign by
leading the Campbell Men to an eighth place team finish at the
Appalachian State Blue Ridge Open. The senior
finished with a time of 25:13.9 to finish 11th of 157
runners.
Sophomore
DeLohnni
Nicol-Samuel (Brandon, Manitoba) and freshman Morgan
Timiney (Kalamazoo, Mich.) finished less than two seconds
apart, placing 51st and 53rd ,
respectively. Nicol-Samuel had a time of 26:12.9
while Timiney's was 26:14.8 at the 8K
venue.
Freshman
Chris
Schulist (Holland, Mich.) placed 78th for the Camels
with a time of 26:41.0, while freshman Clayton
Woll (Howell, Mich.) finished 104th with a time of
27:11.3.
Junior Rachel
Deline (Belleville, Ontario) paced the CU Women, which placed
13th as a team at the 5K course, with a time of 19:06.0
to finish 63rd individually. Freshman Ashley
Matthews (Raleigh, N.C.) had a time of 19:07.7, which was good
enough for 68th place. Another freshman
contribution came from Samantha
Robbins (London, Ontario) who finished 84th with a
time of 19:21.2.
Senior Baillie
Locke (Wiarton, Ontario) came in with a time of 19:22.4 which
put her in 87th place. Laura
Verschuren (Guelph, Ontario) rounded out the Campbell top-5,
finishing 111th with a time of 19:41.7.
The host,
Appalachian State, won the men's team event narrowly over High
Point University. Neal Darmody, from High Point
University, won the individual event with a time of
24:35.9.
Duke
dominated the women's team event, placing four runners in the top
six, including the winner, Carly Seymour, who had a time of
17:15.0.
The Camels
are next in action at the Atlantic Sun Championships on Saturday,
Oct 30 in Spartanburg, S.C. Start time is scheduled
for 9 a.m.
