LYNCHBURG, Va. - Campbell's swimming team (1-0) started the season
on the winning track with a 111-94 victory over Liberty on
Saturday, Oct. 2 in Lynchburg. The meet was the first-ever for the
Flames.
CU freshman Kylie
Warne had a great first day for Campbell in winning a pair of
events and setting a school record. The freshman from Alberta,
Canada won both the 1,000 free and the 100 back. Her time of
10:49.20 in the 1,000 free is school record and bested the 10:53.49
swam by Jackie
Kenline nearly three years ago in a meet against Georgia
Southern and Howard. Warne also swam a 1:01.20 in winning the 100
back.
Fellow newcomer Virginia
Dailey won her event with a time of 2:14.50 in the 200 IM. A
third member of the freshman class, Cheriesse
Campbell had an immediate impact with an event win in the 500
free (5:11.62). Junior Emily
Michael was also an event winner for Campbell with her time of
1:09.48 in the 100 breast.
The Camels had three second-place finishes in individual events by
Campbell (1:55.91 - 200 free) and senior Ashlyn
Stumpf (25.19 - 50 free and 54.90 in 1000 butterfly).
The CU relay team in the 200 medley (freshman Kaitlyn
Burnette, freshman Charlotte Cornet, senior Casey
Umberger and sophomore Kaitlyn
Tunstall) placed second in their event with a time of
1:55.91.
The Campbell relay team in the 200 free relay also placed second in
their event (1:41.29).
Next, Campbell's swimming program returns home to the
Johnson Aquatic Center to host North Carolina A&T and Georgia
Southern on Oct. 15 at 5 p.m.
