Football's Adam Willets Takes Home Weekly Pioneer Football League Honor

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - For the first time this season and the third time in his career Campbell placekicker Adam Willets was named the Pioneer Football League's Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Nov. 21.

Willets earned the award after registering six points in Campbell's double overtime 30-24 loss at Morehead State on Nov. 20. Willets was a perfect three-for-three on his extra point attempts including a made extra point in the first overtime to send the game to a second session. Willets also knocked in a 27-yard field goal to give Campbell a 17-10 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the game. The field goal was Willets' ninth of the season, which tied his own single-season record. He also kicked off and averaged 52.8 a kick on his four kick-offs.

Willets ended his season going 9-for-15 on his field goal attempts and making 28 of his 31 extra point attempts for 55 points. His 55 points scored are the most in a single-season for a Campbell kicker and the second-most point scored by a Campbell player in the school's three-year modern day history. His 55 points scored ranked Willets sixth in the conference in scoring among all kickers. Willets set a new career-best with a 47-yard field goal on the road in the 20-16 win over Virginia-Wise to start the season on Sept. 4, 2010.

Willets previously was named the PFL's Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 25, 2009 and Nov. 1, 2009.

The award is the sixth time that Campbell's football program has been honored with a weekly award since the program was restarted. CU's Milton Brown was named the PFL's Defensive Player on the Week on Sept. 29, 2008, Cody Lyon was named the PFL's Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 1, 2009 and Brandon Chandler was named the PFL's Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 15, 2009.
