Lipscomb defeats Campbell 5-1 in A-Sun men's soccer first round

NASHVILLE, TENN. - Miguel DaSilva scored two goals and assisted on two others and Lipscomb dealt Campbell a 5-1 loss Saturday in the first round of the A-Sun men's soccer championship at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

The fourth-seeded Bisons (10-8) will advance to Thursday's 7:00 p.m. semifinal at top-seeded East Tennessee State. Fifth-seeded Campbell (6-9-4) dropped its third-straight match to end the season.

Campbell advanced to at least the semifinal round of each A-Sun Tournament from 2005-09, but could not overcome a 3-0 half-time deficit Saturday.

DaSilva put the Bisons ahead 1-0 in the 33rd minute; then Lipscomb scored twice within a 49-second span late in the period to take a three goal cushion. DaSilva set up Angel Chairez' 43rd-minute strike, then scored his second goal of the match - and eighth of the year - at 43:48.

Garret Pettis scored his eighth goal of the year in the 60th minute from DaSilva's assist. Josh Kolbo added Lipscomb's final tally in the 79th minute.

Campbell avoided the shutout in the 86th minute when senior Eric Debrah scored his second goal of the year.

Lipscomb scored its five strikes on just six shots on goal and finished with the most goals ever for a Campbell opponent in the A-Sun tournament. Campbell finished with a 16-14 edge in shots, 8-6 in attempts on target.

Brent McGee made seven saves in the Lipscomb nets, while Ryan Amons had one stop for the Camels.
