NASHVILLE, TENN. - Miguel DaSilva scored two goals and assisted on
two others and Lipscomb dealt Campbell a 5-1 loss Saturday in the
first round of the A-Sun men's soccer championship at the Lipscomb
Soccer Complex.
The fourth-seeded Bisons (10-8) will advance to Thursday's 7:00
p.m. semifinal at top-seeded East Tennessee State. Fifth-seeded
Campbell (6-9-4) dropped its third-straight match to end the
season.
Campbell advanced to at least the semifinal round of each A-Sun
Tournament from 2005-09, but could not overcome a 3-0 half-time
deficit Saturday.
DaSilva put the Bisons ahead 1-0 in the 33rd minute; then Lipscomb
scored twice within a 49-second span late in the period to take a
three goal cushion. DaSilva set up Angel Chairez' 43rd-minute
strike, then scored his second goal of the match - and eighth of
the year - at 43:48.
Garret Pettis scored his eighth goal of the year in the 60th minute
from DaSilva's assist. Josh Kolbo added Lipscomb's final tally in
the 79th minute.
Campbell avoided the shutout in the 86th minute when senior Eric
Debrah scored his second goal of the year.
Lipscomb scored its five strikes on just six shots on goal and
finished with the most goals ever for a Campbell opponent in the
A-Sun tournament. Campbell finished with a 16-14 edge in shots,
8-6 in attempts on target.
Brent McGee made seven saves in the Lipscomb nets, while Ryan Amons
had one stop for the Camels.
