Women's Basketball Renews Rivalry Saturday with UNC Wilmington

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell will host longtime rival UNC Wilmington in the series' 45th all-time meeting Saturday, tipping-off with the Seahawks at 1p.m. inside the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center.

The Lady Camels (0-6) have not squared off with UNCW (4-2) since 2007, the second-longest gap in series history. The teams faced each other 42 times from 1974-2001, with a meeting in every calendar year except for 1980 and 1992. Campbell leads the all-time series 30-14 that includes a 17-4 mark in Buies Creek.

Sophomore guard Tonisha Baker leads CU in scoring at 11.2 points per game, coming off a career-high 21 point performance against High Point last week. Baker has racked up 41 points in two games at home this season, and carries averages of 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game inside the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center this year.

Jazmine Cooper, a sophomore forward who tallied nine points and nine rebounds against the Panthers, is posting 8.7 points per game, while leading the Lady Camels on the glass at 6.2 a contest. Senior forward Lauren Yesh is adding 8.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this season. Monique Spry and Courtney Cannon tack on 7.0 points per game apiece.

The Seahawks, led by first-year head coach and recent James Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, boast three double-figure scorers, including Kristen Hanzer (13.7 ppg), Brittany Blackwell (13.3 ppg) and Martha White (10.3 ppg). Blackwell, a senior forward, also paces the Seahawks on the boards with 10.2 rebounds per game. White, a senior center, adds 8.0 rebounds per game.

Alisha Andrews also adds 9.7, while Jessica Freeman averages 7.7 points per game. Andrews is hitting .393 percent from distance, nailing a team-high 11 three-pointers.

After Saturday's tilt, the Lady Camels will host North Carolina Central in the first of two Education Days on the campus of Campbell University, Dec. 14. Local elementary school students will enjoy a Campbell women's basketball game on their trip to Campbell. Game time is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
