CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell University men's tennis team won five
singles matches and defeated Hampton, 5-1, despite a three hour
rain delay at the Nisbet Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. The
Camels are now 9-3 on the season.
The teams just played singles competition on the afternoon because
of the long rain delay. The Camels have now won seven consecutive
matches with their last loss coming all the way back on February
16, when they were narrowly defeated by nationally ranked UNC
Wilmington, 4-3.
Campbell junior Davy Sum remained undefeated
in singles competition on the year with a straight set victory over
Nelio Mattos, 6-0, 6-1. Sum is now 10-0 during dual play and is
now fifth on the all-time career victories list in Campbell
history. He now has 72 career wins and needs just ten more
victories to become the school's all-time leader.
Larbi Lamzouri earned his
team leading 11th straight victory as he downed Kenneth
Green in the number two position, 6-0, 6-1. Lamzouri owns an 11-1
mark in dual play and is 16-5 overall on the season.
The only victory for the Pirates came at number three singles as
Gellert Varga defeated Beto Mondini, 6-0, 6-1.
Loukas Wallaart earned a
straight set victory over Edson Alves, 6-1, 6-1, at the number four
position. Wallaart has now won three straight matches.
Freshman David
Clavera continues to impress at the number five position as he
defeated Alvin Fludd, 7-6, 6-3. Clavera has now won seven straight
matches and owns an 8-3 mark in spring singles action.
Ondrej
Kralik, another Campbell freshman earned a straight set victory
over Marcelo Reda, 6-4, 6-2.
